Petunia
This cheerful bloomer always announces that spring has arrived! With its big colourful calyxes, the plant shines in any garden. This plant is used in everything from hanging baskets, wall bags and containers to tubs. The Petunia also does extremely well planted in a bed, and with good care it can last all summer until the frosts arrived. Ultimately this results in a fabulous sea of flowers in the garden!
Origin
The Petunia originates from South America. Petunias are particularly widespread in the wild in Brazil and Argentina. The plants do look considerably less cheerful in the wild. This is because the plants bloom much less there. Thanks to the growers, Petunias now come in a range of different types, sizes and colours. There are hundreds of types on the market. Breeders keep coming up with new types which offer a new colour or shape. To get a good idea of how many types there are, take a look in our webshop!
Sales advice
Petunias are a very popular with garden lovers. This is partly because the plant comes in a wide range of colours. That means the plant is a good way to brighten up the garden using the different colours. The plant is often also incorporated in arrangements such as containers and hanging baskets. These arrangements are well suited to impulse buys by your customer, because the arrangements are offered ready-made and the customer can display the product straightaway. When selling Petunias in hanging baskets, we recommend that the baskets be displayed at eye level or below, so that the customer sees the plant itself rather than the hanging basket. For loose sales, we recommend that you display the plants mixed. That ensures that it really looks like a lively garden party!
