Diunt Flowers
Diunt Flowers is a true family business. This nursery grows the robust brassica. An ornamental cabbage that is becoming increasingly popular as a flower. Where we are used to a family business being named after the last name, Diunt Flowers got its name from the place where they started the nursery. Frank Jansen is an enthusiastic grower following in his parents' footsteps. We are happy to tell you more about this grower.
Origins
In 1988, Frank Jansen's parents started the company. They started with all kinds of fruits and vegetables. They have now reduced that to only strawberries. In addition, they started growing Brassica four years ago. The cultivation of strawberries and Brassica complement each other nicely. They grow about 20 different varieties of Brassica. The focus is on quality. Since Frank is a perfectionist, this is right up his alley.
Availability
Brassica is available, depending on the weather, from September to the end of November. Brassica is available in various inspiring colours. From white, ivory, green, vintage pink to even red/purple they match the latest trends. The colours change as it gets colder, so each variety keeps changing colour until the end of the season. Frank doesn't have a favourite himself, he likes a bouquet of different varieties together best.
Teamwork
Frank draws up the cultivation plan, does fertilisation, selling ornamental cabbage and human resources. His father is responsible for land preparation and crop protection work and his mother for farm hygiene. The farm has a flat company structure, everyone is involved in everything. The tasks change by part of the day and throughout the season. He starts in the morning as a forklift driver, then he is HR manager and, after the coffee break, cultivation supervisor. After the lunch break, he stands replacing a pipeline while answering phone calls with dirty hands. In the evening, he makes a quick round of the fields to irrigate or create a feeding trough and chase away some more game. So no two days are the same.
